There are 37 pumps working 24 hours a day in New Orleans to remove the floodwater from the city.
The city is still about 60% underwater, but floodwaters are receding at a rate of 4 to 6 inches a day.
And 4 to 6 inches a day is a rapid rate when the large volume of water is considered.
The flood water is badly contaminated with E.Coli bacteria and numerous chemicals and has posed a health risk for holdout residents as well as law enforcement officers and rescue workers in the area.
